Two quotes for what sounds like the same door can describe two different jobs. One may supply a door panel for your existing frame; another may take the frame, sill and trim out. One may include flashing, disposal, trim and a permit; another may list the door and leave the rest to be discovered later. Neither quote is necessarily wrong — but nothing on either page tells you which job it is pricing.
This section is about the paperwork rather than the product. It covers how to lay two quotes side by side and mark each line the same, different, unknown or not comparable — and how to read the warranty that comes with whichever one you sign, since what is covered, for how long, and whether it passes to the next owner depends on the component and on the document itself.
We do not tell you whether a price is fair, rank contractors or pick a winner. We tell you what you are comparing.
