Compare Two or Three Door Quotes

Updated September 29, 2026 by Chris Horton. Quote comparison, not an appraisal of any installer. How we estimate costs

For homeowners holding two or three written door quotes. Six steps. At the end you get one answer: are these installers quoting the same door in the same scope? Plus the cost per opening for each, every difference between them, and the questions to send back before signing. The tool does not publish a fair price for your door and does not verdict any total on the paper.

Read every field straight off the paperwork. Where a line is not on a quote, choose Not stated: that becomes a question to send back, not a guess. A door quote covers more than the door: the jamb, the sill, the threshold, the weatherstrip, the trim inside and out, and the hardware set are the parts that make two totals not comparable when one includes them and the other does not.

Verdicts, per line: SAME means every quote states the same value. DIFFERENT means the quotes state different values in a way that changes what the homeowner receives. UNKNOWN means one or more quotes did not state the value at all. NOT COMPARABLE means the quotes cannot be compared on that line because they are for different door counts or fundamentally different scopes.

Leave blank if you are only comparing two quotes.

Scope items on each quote

For every quote, tick the scope items literally present on the paper. Leave unticked if not on that quote.

Line-by-line comparison

SAME means every quote states the same value. DIFFERENT means the quotes state different values in a way that changes what the homeowner receives. UNKNOWN means at least one quote did not state the value. NOT COMPARABLE means the line cannot be compared because the quotes cover different door counts or fundamentally different scopes.

What this tool does, and what it does not

      It can help you

      • Confirm whether two or three quotes are for the same door in the same scope.
      • Show cost per opening rather than headline total.
      • Name every field that differs between the quotes.
      • Flag the scope lines missing from at least one quote.
      • Prepare the questions to send every installer before choosing.

      It cannot tell you

      • A fair price for your door. No tool can from a description.
      • Whether any installer will do the work well.
      • What is behind the trim until the old door is out.
      • Which installer to hire.
      • Whether the manufacturer named on any quote will actually be delivered.
