Doors are sold with labels, logos and acronyms, and little of it appears on the product page you were shown. If you are holding a quote and cannot tell whether the door it names meets anything in particular, that is the question this section exists to answer.
It explains the energy and compliance standards that can appear on a door quote or a product label, and how to verify a specific product using the official certification sources rather than a brochure. Start with the ENERGY STAR and NFRC guide for energy-performance labels.
Coastal and high-wind compliance is a separate subject, and it is not covered in this section yet.
We take criteria from the official specification rather than from a summary, we date what we publish, and where an official source is silent we say so instead of filling the gap.
In this section
ENERGY STAR door requirements: U-factor, SHGC and NFRC labels — the criteria as the specification states them, and how to check a quoted door against them yourself.
