Updated October 3, 2026. Every Simonton statement below comes from Simonton’s own 6500 and 6550 collection and product pages, its warranty download page and its How to Buy wording, checked on that date. Channel statements come from The Home Depot’s window installation service page, its installed-Simonton product listing and the Simonton 6000 Collection site run for Home Depot installations. How we research this
A Simonton quote from The Home Depot can call the same kind of window four different things: 6500, 6550, the 6000 Collection, or simply “vinyl double-hung.” Simonton currently publishes two separate collection pages, one for the 6500 and one for the 6550, and both describe themselves as Simonton’s premier window line sold exclusively at The Home Depot. So two proposals that both say “Simonton” can still be different orders, and a second bid from a local contractor can look cheaper or dearer for reasons that have nothing to do with the window.
This page decodes the identity of a Simonton 6500 or 6550 bid and the fields that have to be normalized before its total means anything. It does not rate the window against other brands, it does not declare a winner, and it does not publish a price per window, because neither Simonton nor The Home Depot publishes one for this line: the price comes from an in-home or virtual consultation. If you want the product-versus-product question instead, our ProVia Endure vs Simonton 6500 comparison covers it.
Three names on one premier line
Here is what each name means where it appears in October 2026. Read your proposal against the first column. It is an identification aid, not a ranking.
| Name on the quote | Where that name is used | What the publisher says about it | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6550 Collection | Simonton.com collection and style pages; the collection page was last updated in August 2026 according to its own metadata | Simonton’s premier window line, sold exclusively at The Home Depot through its installation services. Beveled exterior. Select triple-pane styles recognized as ENERGY STAR Most Efficient in 2025. Black laminate interior and Black cam locks listed | The most recently maintained Simonton page for this line. Its double-hung page’s structured data still names the product “6500 Double Hung Windows” |
| 6500 Collection | Simonton.com collection and style pages; the collection page was last updated in July 2025 | Also described as Simonton’s premier window line, sold exclusively at The Home Depot. “Architectural frame.” Most Efficient badge dated 2023 and glass text dated 2022 | Still live and still indexed. A bid using this name is not wrong, but ask whether the order and the unit label will say 6500 or 6550 |
| Simonton 6000 Collection | The Simonton site for Home Depot installations (simonton.homedepotinstallation.com) | A program name for Simonton windows and patio doors available exclusively through The Home Depot. Its series list includes 6200, 6100, ClearValue and two separate 6500 entries | A family name, not a product. A quote that says only “Simonton 6000” has not told you which series is priced |
| 6500 East / 6500 West | Two separate series pages on the same Home Depot installations site | Different descriptions: the East entry calls the 6500 Simonton’s premier line; the West entry describes a contoured frame. The West double-hung page lists White and Tan interiors and White, Tan and Polished Brass hardware | Same number, regional product pages. Offerings depend on your ZIP code |
| “Installed Vinyl Double Hung Windows” by Simonton | Homedepot.com installed-product listing, model HSINSTSMVVDH | Argon-filled, fiberglass mesh screen, free consultation, removal of old materials included | No series named at all. The series has to come from the consultant’s order, not the listing |
Sources: Simonton 6500 and 6550 collection pages and the 6550 double-hung, sliding, casement, awning, picture, bay and bow, garden and specialty-shape pages; the Simonton 6000 Collection window-series page and 6500 product pages on simonton.homedepotinstallation.com; The Home Depot’s installed Simonton double-hung listing. Simonton states that product offerings vary by region.
Side by side, the two Simonton.com collection pages publish the same standard glass, the same style list, the same vinyl and laminate color names and the same premium hardware finishes. The visible differences are the frame description, the year on the ENERGY STAR badge, and the 6550’s Black cam-lock finish and black interior laminate wording. Simonton does not publish a statement that the two are identical, or a list of what changed. That is why the identity question is settled by the order and the label, not by the brochure name.
The channel is part of the identity
Both Simonton collection pages say the 6500 and 6550 are sold exclusively at The Home Depot. Under that arrangement, a Home Depot design consultant measures, places the order and schedules the job, and licensed installation professionals put the windows in. Simonton sells its other collections through contractors, retail stores and distributors, so a contractor quoting “Simonton” is not unusual; a non-Home Depot bid that names the 6500 or 6550 specifically is worth one written question about which product it is and where it comes from.
The channel also changes how scope is described. The Home Depot’s window installation page says its service includes measurement, a quote covering labor and materials, free removal and disposal of the existing windows, and delivery and installation. Its consultation description adds permit costs to that quote. Its price-match wording is limited to “like for like” product and installation, which is exactly the normalization this page is about: a competing bid has to match the product and the scope before any price comparison is meaningful. If you are pricing the same line twice, start with our Simonton 6500 product sheet for the specification record.
The Simonton 6500/6550 quote identity matrix
Each row is one field of a Simonton bid. The second column is what proposals tend to say; the third is what Simonton or The Home Depot actually publishes for that field; the last column is the condition under which that field stops distorting a comparison. A bid is ready for arithmetic only when every row is satisfied, or deliberately different and written down as your choice. Swipe sideways on a phone to see every column.
| Quote field | What the quote may show | What Simonton or The Home Depot publishes | Comparable now? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Collection name | 6500, 6550, 6500 Collection, Simonton 6000, “premium vinyl,” or only a style name | Two live Simonton collection pages, 6500 and 6550, each called the premier line; Home Depot’s Simonton site groups series under the 6000 Collection | Not yet until every unit carries one collection name and the seller confirms in writing which name the delivered unit’s label will show |
| Regional version | East, West, or no region; a style one bid offers and another does not | Simonton filters products by ZIP code and says offerings vary by region; Home Depot’s Simonton site lists separate 6500 East and 6500 West series | Only if both bids price products offered at your ZIP code |
| Sales channel | Home Depot Installation Services order; or an independent contractor naming the 6500 or 6550 | Both collection pages say exclusively sold at The Home Depot, through its installation services | Not yet for a non-Home Depot bid naming either collection until the seller explains in writing what product it is and how it is sourced |
| Frame and finish | Vinyl color, interior laminate, exterior laminate | Fusion-welded vinyl. Vinyl White, Tan, Driftwood. Laminate interiors Maple, Light Woodgrain, Contemporary Oak, Antique Cherry, Dark Woodgrain, Black, White. Laminate exteriors Black or Bronze, each tied to specific interior pairings | Only if interior and exterior finish are named for every unit and each pairing is one Simonton lists |
| Glass package | “Low-E,” “ProSolar,” “triple pane,” “ENERGY STAR package” | Standard: 7/8-inch insulating unit, double-strength ProSolar Low-E, argon, Supercept spacer. Options: region-specific ENERGY STAR packages, triple-pane, obscure, bronze or gray tint, laminated Sound & Security, SafePoint impact-resistant laminated glass (Missile C, inland coastal areas), tempered | Not yet until each opening’s package is named and its NFRC U-factor and SHGC are stated for the unit as quoted |
| Spacer and unit (only where a bid specifies it) | “Warm edge,” “Supercept,” “Super Spacer,” or nothing | Supercept on the standard 7/8-inch unit; Simonton’s FAQ lists a warm-edge spacer among upgrades; garden windows and specialty shapes use a 1-inch unit, specialty shapes with Super Spacer | Only if any upgrade shows on both bids for the same openings |
| Operating style | Style per opening; 2-lite, 3-lite or end-vent slider; bay, bow, garden | Double-hung, sliding (2- or 3-lite, end vent), casement, awning, picture, bay, bow, garden, specialty shapes. Simonton notes not every option is available on every style | Not yet until every opening has the same style in every bid; a double-hung swapped for a slider is a different order |
| Hardware and screens | Lock finish, crank finish, half or full screen | Color-matched cam locks, with Brushed Nickel, Oil-Rubbed Bronze and Polished Brass as premium finishes; nesting crank and multi-point lever on casement and awning; Air Loks on double-hung; half screen standard on double-hung and sliders, full screen on select windows; aluminum mesh option | Only if premium finishes and full screens are on both bids or neither |
| Installation method | “Pocket,” “insert,” “retrofit,” “full-frame,” or nothing | The Home Depot describes both pocket (insert) and full-frame installation and says the consultant recommends one. Its installed-Simonton listing says it will replace windows and frames | Not yet until the method is written per opening on the order; the listing wording and the consultant’s recommendation can differ |
| Trim, interior and exterior work | Exterior capping or trim, interior casing, stool, wall repair, paint | Neither Simonton’s collection pages nor The Home Depot’s installation FAQ list trim or wall finishing among what is included | Not yet until each bid shows these as included, excluded or priced separately |
| Removal and disposal | Haul-away line, or silence | The Home Depot says old windows are removed and disposed of free with a window installation purchase | Yes for the Home Depot bid once it is on the order; every other bid needs its own line |
| Permit | Permit line, “by owner,” or silence | The Home Depot says the consultation quote covers material, permit, labor and installation costs | Only if every bid says who pulls the permit and whether its fee is inside the total |
| Product warranty | “Lifetime,” “double lifetime,” “Simonton warranty” | Simonton says it backs 6500 and 6550 windows with a comprehensive warranty covering vinyl, hardware and insulating glass units. Its warranty download page lists documents for many collections but none for the 6500 or 6550. The Home Depot’s Simonton site says the 6000 Collection carries a Lifetime Limited Warranty and refers questions to The Home Depot | Not yet until you hold the written warranty for the exact collection, including transfer and labor terms |
| Installation warranty | Workmanship term, or nothing | The Home Depot says it backs installation with a limited installation warranty and tells buyers to ask the consultant for details; its services page describes home services in general as backed by a one-year labor warranty | Not yet until the window-installation term is written on the order and set beside each rival’s workmanship term |
| ENERGY STAR and Most Efficient | Logo, badge or “ENERGY STAR certified” | Simonton says the line can be ordered to meet ENERGY STAR guidelines for any region; Most Efficient recognition applies to select triple-pane styles | Only if it is read from the label of each unit as quoted; a collection badge does not describe your glass |
Product rows from Simonton’s 6500 and 6550 collection pages and the 6550 style pages; channel, method, disposal, permit and installation-warranty rows from The Home Depot’s window installation page and installed-Simonton listing; product-warranty row from Simonton’s warranty download page, its 6500 and 6550 FAQs and Home Depot’s Simonton 6000 Collection warranty page. NFRC reading help is in how to read the NFRC label; general quote fields follow what a window quote should include.
Not comparable until…
- One collection name per unit, and a written answer on what the delivered label will say.
- Products confirmed as available at your ZIP code, not a list from another region.
- The same style for every opening across every bid.
- A named glass package per opening with NFRC U-factor and SHGC for each window type.
- Interior and exterior finish named per unit, using pairings Simonton lists.
- The installation method written per opening: pocket or full-frame.
- Trim, wall repair, disposal and permit each marked included, excluded or extra.
- The actual product warranty document and the installer’s written term, side by side.
Glass is where two Simonton bids drift apart
The standard unit is a 7/8-inch insulating glass unit with double-strength ProSolar Low-E, argon and the Supercept spacer. Everything else is an option: region-specific ENERGY STAR packages, triple-pane, privacy and tinted glass, laminated Sound & Security glass, SafePoint impact-resistant glass rated for inland coastal areas, and tempered glass where code requires it. Garden windows and specialty shapes use a 1-inch unit instead. Two bids that both say “Simonton 6550” can therefore carry different glass on the same opening, and the price gap between them is partly glass.
The ENERGY STAR wording needs the same care. Simonton says the line can be ordered to meet ENERGY STAR guidelines for any region, which means certification depends on the package chosen for your climate zone, not on the collection name. The Most Efficient recognition on Simonton’s pages covers select triple-pane styles, not every 6500 or 6550 window. The NFRC label on each unit, read against the ENERGY STAR criteria for your zone, is the only number that compares. For the material question behind it, our vinyl vs fiberglass guide keeps the general background short.
Installation scope is its own line
The Home Depot describes two methods. A pocket or insert installation sets the new window into the existing frame and suits openings whose frame and sill are sound; a full-frame installation removes the old window, frame and trim and includes a new frame and trim. The consultant recommends one during the appointment. The installed-Simonton product listing, meanwhile, says the service will replace windows and frames. Those are different jobs, so the method belongs on the order opening by opening. See insert vs full-frame replacement for the trade-offs.
Removal and disposal of the old windows is included in a Home Depot window installation, and its consultation quote is described as covering permit costs. Trim, interior casing and any wall or paint repair are not listed among the inclusions in either company’s public material, so ask. When you set a Home Depot Simonton bid beside a local contractor’s, these lines usually explain more of the gap than the window does; our guide to why window quotes vary covers the common drivers, and the window replacement cost guide shows how scope moves a total.
The warranty you are actually buying
Simonton’s collection pages say every 6500 and 6550 window is backed by a comprehensive warranty covering vinyl, hardware and insulating glass units. Simonton’s warranty download page, which posts dated documents for its 5500, 5050, 9800, Madeira, DaylightMax and other collections, does not list a document for either the 6500 or the 6550. The Home Depot’s Simonton site describes a Lifetime Limited Warranty for the 6000 Collection and sends questions to The Home Depot. Labels such as “double lifetime” appear in dealer and review material, not in those Simonton pages.
So the decoding step is simple: ask for the warranty document that applies to your exact collection and purchase date, and read three things before signing. Who is covered after a sale of the house; whether labor is included and for how long; and what is excluded. Then add the installation warranty as a separate line, because The Home Depot describes a limited installation warranty distinct from the manufacturer’s product warranty. Our window warranty decoder explains the usual clauses, and the window warranty checker walks you through them.
Normalizing a Simonton bid against the rest of the stack
- Write the collection name next to every line on the Simonton proposal, and circle any unit that says only “vinyl,” “premium” or a style name.
- Pull patio doors onto their own line. They distort any per-window figure.
- Make an opening-by-opening schedule: style, size, glass package, interior and exterior finish, hardware finish, screen type, installation method.
- Mark every opening where another bid changed the style or method, and decide whether you accept that change before comparing totals.
- Add a line for work a bid leaves to you: trim, wall repair, paint, disposal, permit.
- Write the warranty basis beside each total: product document in hand or not, plus the installer’s term.
- Use the price you would actually pay, cash or total financed, with any promotion deadline noted.
If a seller will not re-quote on your scope, the quote comparison guide covers what to do next. If you are weighing a different Simonton collection sold through contractors, start with our Simonton 5500 product sheet; other lines are in the window brands index.
Eight questions to send back before you sign
- Is every unit on this order the 6500 or the 6550, and what will the label on the delivered windows say?
- Are all quoted products offered at my ZIP code, and is this the East or West version?
- Which style is quoted for each opening, and did you change any opening from what is there today?
- Which glass package is quoted for each opening, and what are the NFRC U-factor and SHGC for each window type as quoted?
- What interior and exterior finish, hardware finish and screen type is quoted for each unit, and which are upgrades?
- Is each opening a pocket or a full-frame installation, and what trim, wall repair and paint are included?
- Is the permit pulled by you and included in this total, and is removal and disposal of the old windows on the order?
- Can I have the Simonton warranty document for this collection and the written installation warranty, with their terms, before I sign?
A seller who answers those in writing has given you a Simonton quote you can line up against the others. A seller who will not has told you something too.
