Updated October 7, 2026 by UpgradeWorth Editorial. This is a document-based guide: every statement about the product comes from Ply Gem’s own current product listing, its Limited Lifetime Warranty for purchases on or after January 1, 2025, and its R-Core thermal flyer, all re-opened on that date. We did not test, install or live with these windows, and this page gives no score. How we research this
Ply Gem lists the 1500 Vinyl Collection as a new-construction vinyl window, offered in single-hung, slider, casement, awning, picture and geometric styles, with a long list of glass, color and grille options. That breadth is the reason a 1500 quote is hard to judge from the series name alone. Two quotes that both say “Ply Gem 1500” can carry different glass, different frame options, different finishes and, as the warranty shows, different coverage terms. This guide separates what Ply Gem’s documents settle for every 1500 window from what depends on the configuration on your quote, and lists what only the dealer can answer.
What Ply Gem’s documents settle
Five points hold for any 1500 window, whatever the configuration. Ply Gem files the line under new construction and impact resistance, not replacement. Its R-Core foam insulation is an option, not a standard feature, and only for some styles. Its published U-factors for R-Core are simulations of one window size and style. The warranty that applies to a purchase made on or after January 1, 2025 covers goods installed in the USA only, is not transferable beyond the first consumer user, and does not pay for labor. And several popular choices, including coextruded and cap stock colors, simulated divided lites and bay or bow units, fall into a “Specialty Goods” class with shorter coverage. Everything else on a quote has to be checked against the specific unit.
Documented, configuration-dependent, or ask the dealer
This is the reference table. Find the row for the need you are buying for, then read across: what Ply Gem’s documents state for the line, what changes with the configuration on your quote, and what to get in writing. The last column names the document that settles it. Swipe sideways on a phone to see every column.
| Homeowner need | Documented by Ply Gem | Configuration-dependent | Ask the dealer | Document to check |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The window suits my project type | Ply Gem lists the 1500 under New Construction and Impact Resistance on its product page | Frame type. The R-Core flyer refers to brickmould and bevel frames, and option availability follows the frame | How will this unit be fitted to my opening, and who is responsible for the installation and its warranty? If your project replaces windows in existing frames, ask why a new-construction line was chosen | Ply Gem 1500 product page; the installer’s written scope. Method question: insert vs full-frame tool |
| The style I want is available | The product page’s style list: single hung, slider, casement, awning, picture and geometric | Double-hung. It is not in the page’s style list, although some gallery captions on the same page show double-hung units | If the quote says double-hung, ask for the series and style code in writing so you know what is actually being ordered | Ply Gem 1500 product page; the order or quote line |
| Low heating and cooling loss | Ply Gem lists HP glass packages, Low-E, triple-pane and ENERGY STAR glass among the 1500 glass options. Its warranty states NFRC ratings combine computer simulation and physical testing and are not performance warranties | U-factor and SHGC change with style, size, glass package, spacer and R-Core. No single figure covers the line | The NFRC-certified U-factor and SHGC for each quoted unit, or its CPD number so you can look it up | NFRC label on the unit; NFRC Certified Products Directory. Decode it with the NFRC label decoder |
| Extra frame insulation (R-Core) | R-Core is a polyurethane foam option for the frame, the sash or both. Ply Gem lists it for 1500 single-hung, sliding and picture windows with brickmould or bevel frame, on all glass packages | Whether it is on your units at all, and which version: sash, frame, or sash and frame | Is R-Core itemized on the quote, which version, and on which openings? It is not listed for casement, awning or geometric units | Ply Gem R-Core flyer (2026); the itemized quote |
| Frame and sash coverage for as long as I live here | Vinyl frame and sash warranted against blistering, peeling, flaking and decaying for as long as the customer resides in the home | Specialty Goods get 10 years from the purchase date instead. Ply Gem’s Specialty Goods list includes laminated, painted, coextrusion and cap stock vinyl colors, simulated divided lites, blinds between glass, laminated, obscure and decorative glass, and bay, bow and garden windows | Is any item on my quote a Specialty Good under the 2025 warranty? Mark which openings | Ply Gem Limited Lifetime Warranty, purchases on or after 1/1/2025 |
| Fogging between the panes | The sealed glass unit is warranted against material obstruction of vision for up to 15 years from the purchase date, and against stress cracks for one year | Specialty Goods glass: 10 years. Ply Gem does not warrant how much argon remains after manufacture | Does the installer add any glass-breakage coverage of its own? Ply Gem’s does not cover breakage beyond the one-year stress-crack term | 2025 warranty; the installer’s warranty |
| Locks, hinges and other hardware | Components, hardware and mechanical parts: 5 years. Torn or loose screen mesh is not covered | Near the coast, rust and corrosion are excluded unless the hardware is stainless steel or another non-corrosive type, which then gets 5 years on the finish | What hardware finish is specified, and is it stainless or non-corrosive if you are near salt water? | 2025 warranty, exclusions list |
| Someone pays to fix it if it fails | Ply Gem does not install windows. Its remedy is replacement parts or, at its discretion, a refund of the product price excluding installation. It is not responsible for removal, reinstallation or repair costs, and trim, finishing and disposal are not included | Nothing in the configuration changes this | The installer’s written labor warranty: what it covers and for how long | 2025 warranty; Ply Gem warranty FAQ; the installer’s contract |
| Coverage if I sell or rent the house | The warranty is not transferable beyond the first consumer user. In non-owner-occupied, multi-family or commercial use, frame, sash and glass are covered for 10 years and components for 5 | On a new build, the builder is the initial customer and the first homeowner is the first consumer user | Who is listed as the purchaser, and will the dealer register the windows? Ply Gem encourages registration after installation | 2025 warranty, Defined Terms and Commercial Applications |
| The product and warranty fit where I live | The 2025 warranty applies only to goods installed in the USA. Ply Gem’s product listing tags the 1500 to 35 states plus D.C., mostly in the East, South and Midwest | Altitude: damage from moving glass more than 5,000 feet above or below the point of manufacture is excluded unless the unit has capillary or breather tubes | If your state is not on Ply Gem’s list, which series is actually being quoted, and which warranty document goes with it? | 2025 warranty; Ply Gem 1500 product listing |
| Wind-borne debris protection | Ply Gem says 1500 single hung, slider, casement, awning, picture and geometric windows have been tested and approved under the Florida Building Code for high winds and wind-borne debris | Impact and non-impact versions are approved separately. The non-impact single-hung approval requires approved shutters where impact protection is required | Is the quoted unit the impact-rated version? Ask for its product approval number and design pressure | Florida Building Code product approval for the quoted unit; the impact label |
| A quieter room | Ply Gem offers a sound-control (STC) glass package on the 1500 and states a single-hung with asymmetric laminated STC glass can reach STC 35 | The STC rating depends on the package and style; 35 is Ply Gem’s upper figure for that single-hung configuration | Which STC package is quoted, and what is its rating for the style you are buying? | Ply Gem STC glass article and sell sheet |
| A dark or colored frame | Interior colors: beige, black, clay, white. Exterior: beige, black, clay, dark bronze, white. Bronze exterior only with a white interior. Black is a coextruded finish | Coextruded and cap stock colors are Specialty Goods, so frame and sash coverage drops to 10 years | Is the color you picked coextruded or cap stock? If so, write the 10-year term next to it on the quote | Ply Gem 1500 product page; 2025 warranty |

Reading Ply Gem’s R-Core numbers
The R-Core flyer is the only place Ply Gem publishes U-factors for the 1500 next to each other. Those figures are useful for one thing: seeing how much each R-Core option moved the result in Ply Gem’s own simulation. They are not ratings for your windows.
| R-Core configuration (Ply Gem’s labels) | Simulated U-factor, warm edge spacer | Simulated U-factor, Warm Edge Spacer Plus (upgrade option) |
|---|---|---|
| No R-Core, standard HP glass package | 0.31 | 0.30 |
| Sash R-Core (“targeted upgrade”) | 0.30 | 0.29 |
| Frame R-Core (“balanced performance”) | 0.29 | 0.28 |
| Sash and frame R-Core (“maximum performance”) | 0.28 | 0.27 |
Source: Ply Gem, “1500 Vinyl Collection with R-Core Thermal System” flyer (© 2026, document 3804269991103), opened October 7, 2026. Ply Gem’s note: the numbers reflect simulated testing of a 3-foot by 5-foot single hung with dual-pane HP glass (Low-E and argon), white interior and exterior, and no grilles. Lower U-factor means less heat flow.
Three limits follow from Ply Gem’s own wording. The figures describe one size and one style, so they do not tell you the U-factor of a slider, a picture window or a single hung of another size. They assume no grilles and a white frame, so a quote with grilles or a colored frame is a different configuration. And R-Core is available only on single-hung, sliding and picture windows with brickmould or bevel frames. The flyer also tells buyers to confirm that the selected glass package meets local code, including the 2024 IECC where it has been adopted. The number that answers that question is the NFRC rating for each unit on your quote.
The 2025 warranty, read line by line
Ply Gem’s Limited Lifetime Warranty for 1500, 5000, Classic and Select Series windows and patio doors states that it applies to purchases on or after January 1, 2025. It is a two-page document, and the coverage terms depend on who owns the home and what was ordered.
| Part | Owner-occupied home, standard goods | Specialty Goods | Non-owner, multi-family or commercial use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vinyl frame and sash | For as long as the customer resides in the home | 10 years from purchase date | 10 years from purchase date |

| Glass stress cracks | Up to 1 year from purchase date | Up to 1 year from purchase date | Not separately stated |
| Components, hardware, mechanical parts | 5 years from purchase date | 5 years from purchase date | 5 years from purchase date |

The terms around the table matter as much as the years in it:
- Purchase date. Coverage periods run from the first date Ply Gem invoices the goods, unless the first consumer can prove a purchase date. On a new build that can be well before you move in.
- Claims. A claim must be made within 60 days of the defect appearing and inside the coverage period.
- Transfer. Not transferable beyond the first consumer user. If you are buying a resale home with 1500 windows, do not count on this warranty.
- Labor. Not covered. Removal, reinstallation, trim, finishing and disposal are excluded.
- Location. Goods installed outside the United States are excluded.
- Payment. Payment of the full purchase price is a condition of the warranty, and Ply Gem may suspend it if invoices go unpaid.
- Wall systems. Windows installed in walls without proper moisture management, such as EIFS or synthetic stucco without an engineered drainage system, are not covered.
- Gas fill. Ply Gem does not warrant how much argon remains in the glass or that a level of thermal efficiency will be maintained.
One version trap: Ply Gem still hosts an older 1500 Series warranty (a 2017 revision) for purchases made before October 1, 2022, and a separate document for purchases from October 1, 2022 to January 1, 2025. If a dealer hands you either one for a purchase made today, ask for the 2025 document. For how manufacturer and installer warranties fit together in general, see our window warranty guide, or check a specific warranty with the window warranty checker.
When the quoted configuration meets your needs, and when to ask for another
This checklist turns the table into decisions. Each row starts from what you need the window to do and names the document that settles it.
| Your need | The quoted configuration meets it when… | Request another configuration or alternative when… | Verify in |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fit for the project | The job is new construction or a full-frame replacement, and the installation method is written on the quote | The quote proposes the 1500 for existing frames without saying how it will be fitted. Ask for the method, or a quote on a line Ply Gem lists for replacement | Ply Gem product listing; installer scope |
| Energy code and comfort | Each quoted unit has NFRC-certified U-factor and SHGC that meet your local requirement | The quote cites flyer numbers or “R-Core” without unit ratings, or promises R-Core on a casement, awning or geometric unit | NFRC label or CPD; R-Core flyer |
| Long-term coverage | You are the first consumer user and will live in the home, and no item is a Specialty Good, or you accept 10 years on those items | The home is a rental or will be sold soon, or you want lifetime frame coverage on a coextruded or cap stock color. Ask what standard finish is available, or compare another line’s written terms | 2025 warranty |
| Coastal or high-wind site | The quote names the impact-rated version, with product approval and design pressure, and non-corrosive hardware | A non-impact unit is quoted where impact protection is required and no shutter plan is included, or hardware finish is unstated | Florida product approval; 2025 warranty exclusions |
| Noise | An STC package is named with a rating for your style | The quote says “sound glass” with no package name or rating | Ply Gem STC literature; the quote |
| Double-hung | The series and style code are written on the quote and the dealer confirms them | Double-hung is promised verbally only. Ask for written confirmation or an equivalent quote in another series | The order confirmation |
| Repair labor | The installer gives a written labor warranty with a stated term | No labor warranty is offered. Ply Gem’s warranty will not pay for the work | Installer contract |
| Location | Your state is on Ply Gem’s 1500 list and your site is not far above or below the factory’s altitude, or the units have breather or capillary tubes | You are outside the listed states or at high elevation. Ask which product and which warranty actually apply | Product listing; 2025 warranty |
Comparing a 1500 quote with another line
A fair comparison holds the configuration constant: same openings, same styles and sizes, NFRC ratings for each unit, the same installation method, the same finish class and the warranty document that applies on the purchase date. Only then does the price difference mean something.
If another dealer quotes a replacement-oriented vinyl line, such as the Alside Mezzo or Soft-Lite Elements, ask for the same set of documents for each: the per-unit NFRC values, the current written warranty with its transfer and labor terms, and the itemized options. Their product pages list what each manufacturer publishes; this page draws no ranking between them. For an example of reading a different manufacturer’s quote field by field, see the Simonton 6500 quote decoder. The general method is in how to compare window quotes, and for what a project usually involves overall, see window replacement cost.
FAQ
Is R-Core standard on Ply Gem 1500 windows?
No. Ply Gem describes R-Core as a foam option for the frame, the sash or both, available on 1500 single-hung, sliding and picture windows with brickmould or bevel frames. Check that it is itemized on your quote.
What warranty covers a Ply Gem 1500 bought in 2025 or later?
Ply Gem’s Limited Lifetime Warranty for 1500, 5000, Classic and Select Series windows and patio doors, effective for purchases on or after January 1, 2025. For an owner-occupied home it covers the vinyl frame and sash while the customer lives there, the sealed glass for up to 15 years and hardware for 5 years, with shorter terms for Specialty Goods.
Is the Ply Gem 1500 warranty transferable?
Not to a later owner. The 2025 document says it is not transferable beyond the first consumer user. Only in commercial applications can it transfer once, from the original developer to the building owner.
Does Ply Gem’s warranty cover installation labor?
No. Ply Gem replaces defective parts or, at its discretion, refunds the product price excluding installation. Removal, reinstallation, trim and disposal costs are excluded, so ask your installer for a written labor warranty.
Is the Ply Gem 1500 a replacement window?
Ply Gem lists the 1500 Vinyl Collection under new construction and impact resistance. If it is quoted for existing frames, ask the installer how it will be fitted and get the method in writing.
How we researched this
On October 7, 2026 we re-opened Ply Gem’s 1500 Vinyl Collection product listing, read the full Limited Lifetime Warranty for purchases on or after January 1, 2025, and read the 2026 R-Core flyer, Ply Gem’s STC glass and 2024 IECC articles, and the Florida product approval drawings for the 1500 single hung. Every claim about the product on this page comes from those documents. We did not test or install these windows, we did not use dealer price lists, forum posts or owner anecdotes, and we do not score or rank the line. Full methodology · editorial policy.
